From thought to print

Creation process

Every piece begins not with a mark, but with a thought. A contemplative theme takes shape first as a poem — words that anchor the feeling and set the direction for everything that follows.

From there, Katie researches the symbolic language of flowers, drawing on historical tradition, folklore and mythology to find the plants that carry the right meaning. A design emerges in pencil — carefully composed so that the arrangement itself tells the story.

Once the design is complete, it is traced and transferred to a block of lino. Using a range of fine carving tools, Katie carves each line with close attention to clarity and mark. The finished block is then hand painted in soft oil inks, colours blended directly onto the surface to create a unique painterly effect — so that no two prints are ever quite the same.
